We wondered over to a place Bec was super excited to visit, a place called 'ALICE's TEA CUP' which is a themed restaurant specialising in all types of tea. I was a little hesitant to have lunch at a tea house which prides itself in childrens literature, but just try and hold Bec back from there....she had been reading the menu to me like a childrens book every night since we first booked our plane tickets.
On the way we saw a group of about 9 street performers break dancing and a CARTIER shop, whose building was decorated in LEDs to look like an enourmous gift- flashing and glittering LEDs it was really something beautiful.
As we got closer to the restaurant, Bec's pace quickened and her attention more focused to a point where she was sprinting down the street, arms swinging full pelt and head pulled back, with us struggling to keep up, whilst screaming at the top of her lungs 'ITS OVER HERE GUYS...WE'RE CLOSE...DONT GIVE UP!'. ALICE's TEA CUP was absolutely fantastic! The Decor really fit the theme, all the glassware was vintage China which made drinking the tea a whole lot more exciting. It was very refreshing and the food was very wholesome and fresh. The variety of tea was incredible and we all picked different tea's which went down really well in contrast to the heavy food we have been eating thus far. Bec got some Indian black tea with peach and ginger, I got a passionfruit and marigold tea, Daisy got a... lukewarm water.....only joking, but it makes a good story so lets keep it. Bec and i ordered a 'MAD HATTER PLATTER' which was a tiered meal of scones and cookies with fresh gourmet sandwiches, whilst Daisy ordered a steak salad. The sandwiches were fantastic and a delightfully light meal. They had granny smith apples in them which made them taste really crispy and juicy in amongst the other ingredients (of which i had no friken idea what they were). The tea really settled my stomach (which was still churning razorblades after the mcdonalds) and relaxed my mind- we really enjoyed this place.
After our lunch we decided to take a walk down the famed Madison Ave retail strip. We walked past some really beautiful clothing and jewellery stores which had more doormen than customers. We went in to Barney's which is apparently a world famous fashion store. However, this place is more like a museum than a shop, with the cheapest item costing as much as a small Caribbean country. After being enchanted by a few of the amazingly beautiful wares, checking the price tags made it increasingly harder to breathe so i decided to wait outside before i got asthma. The girls wondered (in both meanings of the word) a little longer in the store whilst i decided to check on the famous christmas decorated store windows. To my utter disappointment, in place of christmas decorations was some disgusting excuse for unique self expression dedicated to Lady Gaga- eeeewwww.
We also went in to Bloomingdales to sample the fashion which has also made this store a world retail icon. The clothes and jewellery in this place were really amazing but our shopping budget has already been blown out X10. That didnt stop the girls pacing the isles in endless wonder for 3 hours, picking up every second piece and marvelling to me at how cheap it was no matter what the price was. 'WOOOAA look mat, a ball of yarn, and its ONLY $5000....oh my god, its 100% wool, thats SOOOO CHEAP...'. After much difficulty i managed to get them out of the store by telling the security guard they are both thieves who had been looking for things to steal.
